3rd Grade Steals Thriller in Double Overtime to Win…

One day after losing to a Hartford Young Dreamers squad by 10 points, Fierce 3rd Grade didn’t back down and fought from start to finish and more, as it took two overtimes and a game winning free throw to win the final tournament of the spring season!

This championship game was an instant classic. Hartford Young Dreamers led by 5 points late in the second half before Marty Lipow made a clutch 3 point shot to close the gap to two points. The lead was down to 1 with 20 seconds remaining when Lucas Conneely nailed the biggest shot of the season to put Fierce up 2. The Dreamers then tied the game to send it to overtime. In overtime, both defenses were relentless and not a single point was scored. Then, in a sudden death double overtime format, where it was first team to 5 points wins, the Dreamers went up 3 to 0 before Bennett Harriman delivered a key pass to Kroi Saliu for a clutch score. Kroi then made two free throws to push the score to 4 to 3 and that is where the magic happened. Lucas Conneely was sent to the free throw line with a chance to win the game, and that’s exactly what he did, sending the packed crowd in a celebratory frenzy! What an ending to an incredible spring season!

To qualify for the championship game, Fierce pulled out a 40-34 win over Stamford Peace and 36-21 victory over CT Elite.
