The Barclays Center hosts three popular college basketball tournaments each year: Barclays Center Classic, Coaches vs Cancer Classic, and Legends Classic. The arena also hosts men’s basketball tournament for the Atlantic 10 Conference, as well as NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament games.

While the “greatest basketball player of all time” Michael Jordan grew up in North Carolina, he was born in Brooklyn!

Beyond basketball, Brooklyn has a rich sports history that includes the Brooklyn Dodgers. With the Dodgers, Jackie Robinson became the first African-American player in Major League Baseball. Although the team moved to Los Angeles in 1957, baseball returned to Brooklyn with the minor league’s Brooklyn Cyclones in 2001.

New Haven has arguably the most impressive basketball history in the state of Connecticut. A long list of notable high school and collegiate basketball players grew up in the city of New Haven and attended the local schools. These include Hillhouse High School and Wilbur Cross High School. Over the years, New Haven high schools have collected a trophy case of league championships. Yale University, the University of New Haven, Southern Connecticut State University and Albertus Magnus College all have experienced basketball success.
